Re-Regulation Revisited: How GIS Can Help Support a Competitive Position in Today's Energy Utility World
At the Fall User's Group Meeting of two years ago, Jeff Meyers presented a paper on the impact of De-regulation and Competition in the Energy Utility industry, and the role that AM/FM/GIS might play in a de-regulated world. This paper looks again the industry from a GIS perspective, now that many of the changes which were being forecast at the time have come to pass. Will the mega-national utility be a reality? What changes will competition impose on the traditional AM/FM/GIS shop? How can new technology be used for greater leverage? The answers, or at least Jeff's view of the answers, to these and other questions will be presented and discussed.
