The Power of Integrating GIS with Assessment Analysis Tools: A Nova Scotia Case Study

The assessment and appraisal community has recently begun to recognize the growing importance of GIS technology. Being able to view map features in combination with development trends and environmental hazards has proved to be a powerful tool in the hands of assessors. The ability to visually identify changes that influence value, combined with a range of spatial analysis tools such as comparable sales or properties, is just one of the benefits of an integrated CAMA/GIS system. These types of tools combined with transactionally updated ownership, building permit, and subdivision information available on-line, are going to open new doors to the future of assessment in Nova Scotia, Canada. This presentation will highlight the Nova Scotia project with a special emphasis on GIS trends as they relate to the assessment community.
