Digital cartography is generated by the Municipality of Barcelona, the Catalonian Cartography Institute, the Catalonian quarters of the Central Government Cadastre, the Planning Commission of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona and by another institution which encompasses many municipalities of the Metropolitan Area. The digital cartography is not free, and has got several prices according to the extent and scale of the area one demands. There is not a data warehouse for the digital cartography of Barcelona area, save a 1993 paper (1). We only intend to report about the information created by public institutions. There are private companies which indeed sell digital cartography
Attribute data are also generated by many public institutions. Many of the ones referred above also create and mantain digital alphanumerical databases. There is not a data warehouse either. The BEMCAT ("Banc d'Estadístiques comarcals i municipals de Catalunya") does have an interesting index of attibute data for municipalities, both at an aggregated (groups of municipalities) and desaggregated levels (census tracts and census blocks). The BEMCAT gave us also digital data for free. Other Departments of the Generalitat of Catalonia have also free attribute data. Cadastral and municipal digital attribute data are not available for free
The Generalitat of Catalonia does not have a public resource for citizens to find out about the public and free attribute data they have got, save the case of the BEMCAT. The data un-warehous-ed consists on catalogues of business companies, schools, hospitals, hotels, etc. The attributes or columns these records have are "address" and "type of activity". Furthermore the companies list has an attribute with the number of workers per company.
