You are 213th guest at MOM's Place.

MOM (Make O' Map) V1.1 is an experimental interface between ArcInfo and Netscape. Since it is easier to learn a new language(PERL) while working on a project, I came up with the ArcInfo - Netscape idea. It consists of about 1000 lines of Perl Script which produces a C shell script of 20 lines and an ArcInfo AML file of between 50 to 150 AML lines. The .gra file is then converted to a .gif and sent to Netscape.

Indian Communities, Lake Pleasant, and Congressional Districts themes have been added to The Arizona dataset.

The Lake Pleasant dataset has been added.

A Zoom Box function has been added.

NOTES:

  1. The Bureau of Reclamation is not to be held responsible for this program in any way, shape, or form.(Blame me)
  2. NETSCAPE 1.2 or better should be used with at least a resolution of 640 x 480 at 256 colors.
  3. The hooks are in place for annotation and color ramping but are not active(a future upgrade?).
  4. ArcInfo resides on our Data General 6220, it will take a minute or so to produce the finished map so have patience.
  5. Nothing special has been done to the data sets used by MOM. These are the same ones used in our day to day GIS work.
  6. MOM is not meant to replace ArcView. It can be used to view Metadata or just allow access to certain data sets.
  7. The .gif file is created at 100 dpi, but the actual size is dependent on the resolution of the monitor being used.
  8. Whichever theme is chosen as Theme 1 sets the default mapextent for the map.
  9. Some browsers can not handle 127 colors in a pull down menu. Try 16 colors instead..
Give MOM a try and let me know what you think.
