Joan N. Gardner
Yvette Swain , Steve Melly

The Massachusetts Cancer Registry data for 1982-1992 indicated that Cape Cod was an area with an elevated breast cancer incidence. Silent Spring Institute responded to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Request for Proposal by assembling a multidisciplinary team that included Applied Geographics, Inc., who developed the geographic information system as a tool for the epidemiological analysis. This presentation will focus on the issues involved with gathering data from various sources and times in order to map the location of the individual breast cancer diagnosis with variables hypothesized to relate to health risk.
