Using GIS for Downtown Revitalization Planning
Jeff SiegelHNTB Corporation, in working with the City of Lansing, Michigan, is developing a comprehensive downtown plan for Lansing's primary shopping district. A critical part of this plan is a parcel-based GIS, which utilizes the City Assessor's database along with a specialized database tailored to the project. This paper will discuss the use of the GIS in aiding all project tasks including public participation, public relations, land use analysis, infrastructure analysis, final plan presentation, and project data communication. GIS is a great tool and has enhanced the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of this downtown plan.
