Building Integrated GIS Systems: City of Simi Valley Experience

Simi Valley has been planning to build an enterprisewide GIS since the late 1980s. In 1996, a prime contractor, Fugro, was selected to implement the enterprise GIS systems consisting of hardware, software, basemap/utility map conversion, and integration services. The integrated GIS systems provide multiple user access to the shared Oracle databases supporting Esri's ArcInfo and ArcView GIS applications: RJN's CASSWORKS facilities inventory and work order processing system and Sierra "Permits" Plus automated permits tracking system through a Novell wide area network.
