Public Access Can Save You Money: A PLUS for Your Citizens and Your County

Brandon MooreIn Ashe County, North Carolina, a parcel land use system is providing a wealth of information on 30,000 parcels through a network accessible by all Ashe County departments, a walk-up public access system, online dial-in service, and a stand-alone CD with program and data. Residents (especially surveyors, lawyers, and real estate agents) are utilizing the public access system often, commenting that locating property lines and finding property owners with a click of the mouse is easy. Mapping office employees love the system, too, as their time helping citizens locate information has dramatically decreased thus giving them more time for other tasks. The system includes County-wide digital orthophotos that can be displayed, manipulated, and printed.
