Groundwater Flow Modeling with ArcView GIS

A groundwater modeling extension is developed for the ArcView GIS system. This extension uses ArcView GIS as pre- and postprocessors for three-dimensional finite-element groundwater flow modeling. It makes the streamlined groundwater flow modeling inside the GIS possible. A customized modeling environment is created inside ArcView GIS by using Avenue, ArcView Spatial Analyst, and Visual Basic. Groundwater flow model input data files are generated based on the site-specific hydrogeological information databased in the GIS system. Utilizing powerful features of ArcView GIS, model input data can be easily specified and modified. Model output results are converted to ArcView GIS shapefiles for visualization and interpretation.
