DOQs and DRGs on CD-ROM from USGS: Tools Using ArcView GIS and Dialog Designer To Make Data Use a Snap Paper Text

Craig Perreault

This session will look at the availability, format, and some example uses of these two USGS digital products available on CD-ROM: Digital Orthophoto Quad (DOQ) and Digital Raster Graphic (DRG). A digital orthophoto is a digital image of an aerial photograph with displacements caused by camera angle and terrain removed. A DOQ combines the image characteristics of a photograph with the geometric qualities of a map. A DRG is a scanned image of a U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) standard series topographic map including all map collar information. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced and fit to the Universal Transverse Mercator projection. The examples will include explanations of tools developed at the Minnesota DNR using ArcView GIS and Dialog Designer to take advantage of the storage standards on the CD-ROMs. These tools make data access easier and also automate the process of mosaicking and clipping adjacent files to make one seamless image.
