The Lewin Group Community GeoScope: A Decision Support GIS Tool To Support Community Health Assessment and Health Planning

The Lewin Group Community GeoScope is a decision support tool used to design and evaluate targeted interventions for health planning and assessment purposes. This tool integrates community or population level data that can be linked to a geographical area. A system prototype was developed for use in Fulton County, Georgia. The prototype includes over 270 variables from a variety of data sources including demographics, Medicaid eligibility and payments, health facilities, community resources, infectious disease testing, and natality information. Variables can be aggregated to different levels of geography (e.g., census block group), analyzed in tabular format, mapped, layered over other variables, or graphed.
