Ignorance was BLIS: The Bermuda Land Information System

The paper will discuss the preparation of digital mapping specifications, a strategy document, and an implementation plan for development of the Bermuda Land Information System (BLIS). From first conception to the present time (the digital mapping will be complete in December 1997) discussion will include details of the project including, but not limited to, a user needs survey, standards for addressing, and development of naming conventions and symbology. Sample data will be shown of the mapping, which has been digitized from large-scale (1:2,500) mapping with over 250 feature codes with comment on the advantages and disadvantages of the new data.
