Modeling Uncertainty in Spatial Location Using ArcInfo Paper Text

David T. Hansen

Many natural resource themes have uncertainty associated with the location of the geographic features that they represent. This paper examines the effect of uncertainty in the locations of polygon and line features of a GIS theme on analysis with other GIS themes. The original GIS theme identifies levels of uncertainty in the boundaries of a polygon coverage for the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. This uncertainty is carried forward into GIS analysis with other GIS themes using ARC GRID. ARC GRID is then used for display and reporting the uncertainty associated with this theme for themes generated from the spatial analysis.
