Providing Wildlife Habitat Information Using ArcView IMS Paper Text

Tammy Bearly

Information regarding impacts on wildlife habitats could be key for making siting decisions for residential development. Often, though, this type of information is not readily available to local officials, citizens, and developers. The objective of ScoP (System for Conservation Planning) is to provide this information on the Internet in an interactive and easy-to-use manner. ScoP provides dynamic queries for user-defined areas as well as the more standard static display of maps, their attributes, and related text. This project has evolved from an AML-based program to an ArcView IMS-based project. This paper discusses some of the technical details, design considerations, technical limitations, and opportunities for using IMS to provide this conservation biology based information.
