Development of Predictive Models for Understory Forest Resources by Improving Data Documentation and SharingPage V. ElseMichael Shephard This paper describes a cooperative project between a conservation group and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) to develop user documentation and metadata for USFS data sets. The data were then applied to predict understory forest resources. Benefits of the project were improved public and agency access to the data and expanded awareness of nontimber resource values of the region. Methodology for data documentation and predictive model development will be described. The project was funded by the National Spatial Data Infrastructure Benefits Program and USFS collaborative stewardship money. Hardware and software were provided by the Conservation Technology Support Program.
