Integration of GIS in Municipal Governments
Hugo CardenasThe nature of GIS, its overwhelming use, and its reliance on computer technology can run contrary to the data, skills, and training found in many municipalities. The overriding task of providing ongoing support for planning and decision making is thus replaced with "request and delivery" type duties within a municipal department. To overcome the request and delivery cycle, GIS managers must remove the complexity burden often found in GIS technologies, thereby embedding GIS throughout every department of a municipal government.
