Show Me the Location with Maps and StatisticsTong ZhouThe author applied GIS (both ArcInfo and ArcView GIS) network analysis capabilities to determine the geographical locations of individual stores and the service areas for each store within three different driving times. Then the values of the selected variables were derived from the service areas and the census tract data. These values were put into a multiregression model for the hypothesis testing. The results showed the statistical significance of some variables and insignificance of others, which provided invaluable insights for locational decision making and study. More important, the notion of combining GIS and statistical approaches suggests a bright potential for future location research.
