This paper reports the findings of The Bald Eagle Nesting Project and offers a model for going to scale with the use of GIS in the K-12 curricula. The Bald Eagle Nesting Project, developed by TIES and supported by the North Central Regional Technology in Education Consortium (NCRTEC) introduces students in grades 6-12 to the powers of GIS to investigate nesting habits of bald eagles in Voyageurs National Park. After analyzing the effects of GIS on student learning and attitudes toward science, NCRTEC proposes a professional development model to scaffold teachers learning instrumental uses of technology.
