Design, Development, and Implementation of a Corporatewide GIS for BJ Services Company

This paper presents a case history of the development of a corporatewide GIS for BJ Services Company, an oil and gas service company. The application was designed to help engineers optimize well treatment design and reduce cycle time for creating engineering reports. A MapObjects-based graphical user interface was designed to access proprietary and commercial data stored in SDE. The database contains more than 2.6 million wells, land survey for twenty-four states, 59,000 producing field outlines, and cultural data. Utilization of Esri's MapObjects and SDE technology resulted in the development of a premier corporatewide GIS.
