Using ArcView GIS To Analyze Large-Scale Bus Transportation Systems and ArcExplorer To Disseminate the Results

Mysun Dean

The objective of this paper is twofold: (1) how I used ArcView GIS to model the complex ancillary data and interrelationships of the 123 bus routes in the downtown Los Angeles transportation network and (2) how ArcExplorer was used to put the report findings on the desktop of the project managers. My report is the GIS portion of a larger report commissioned by the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Association. Report highlights will include cheap data collection methods, attribute data/route network conflicts and solutions, transit-oriented analysis solutions, and benefits and challenges of non-GIS professionals accepting ArcExplorer on their desktops.
