The Louisiana Oil Spill Geographic Information System: An Overview Paper Text

David Gisclair
Jay Arnold

The Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator's Office (LOSCO), 3001, Inc., and Louisiana State University (LSU) are developing the Louisiana Oil Spill Geographic Information System (LOGIS) to fulfill a State mandate for oil spill contingency planning. As with many GIS systems, data acquisition and warehousing for LOGIS is a major issue. The largest single data set is a 500 gigabyte State-wide color infrared (CIR) Digital Orthophotography Quarter Quadrangle (DOQQ) layer being created by 3001. LOGIS is being developed on the Esri ArcView GIS and Internet Map Server model and the Oracle database system. This paper presents the LOGIS background and implementation methodology.
