GIS Application to Fair Housing - A Methodological ExplorationAmy HillierDavid Eldridge Fair housing has distinct spatial dimensions that have been largely unexplored in spite of the fact that mapping has been used to discriminate for decades. Initial application of ArcView GIS to this subject was used to create a needs analysis of housing discrimination in the greater Philadelphia region. Mapping complaints of housing discrimination demonstrates identifiable patterns that can be helpful for designing intervention. GIS is used to juxtapose data representing a variety of sources and types of discrimination. The authors would use the workshop as a means to generate ideas for further GIS application to this subject.
