LITP2000: GIS Development for a Multimodal Transportation Study, Long Island, New York Paper Text

Jules Loweff

The Long Island Transportation Planning Study being conducted for the New York State DOT will provide an integrated multimodal transportation program for managing congestion within Nassau and Suffolk counties in New York State. A GIS will store alternative performance measures, transit route and highway segment attributes, O/D data, and socioeconomic data. An ArcView GIS application will provide the interface between the modeling tools and ArcInfo. The application will combine modeling link/node performance measures with route system/milepost information from ArcInfo. Programs will automatically convert model performance measure output to route events that can then be combined with State highway data for display and analysis in ArcView GIS. Functionality includes the integration of TRANPLAN, TransCAD, and INTEGRATION model output with ArcInfo and ArcView GIS, the use of ArcView GIS and its Dialog Designer, and RPC to integrate ArcInfo for UNIX with ArcView GIS for Windows.
