Creating Unique Records for Multitenant Buildings

Using parcel themes created with ArcView GIS and ArcInfo, applications were developed in Avenue combining tax identification numbers with building and unit numbers to create unique records for individual units, containing a true/false field with an initial "false" value. Record selection, followed by point placement, changes the value to "true," moves the record to the bottom of the database, and copies the record to the point theme attributes table. The operator sees only the remaining "false" records, increasing point placement efficiency. Resulting point and shapefiles are linked into applications, including routing water meter readers, police, and fire, using MapObjects.
