An Earthquake Model for the New Madrid Seismic Zone
Bryan D. MayhanThe lower Mississippi Valley is the site of the most active seismic zone east of the Rocky Mountains. The most destructive series of earthquakes in United States history occurred there during the winter of 1811-1812. The author has developed an ArcInfo GIS tool designed to model both historic and projected seismic events. This paper will present a seismic model demonstrating these earthquakes as well as the damage potential for future events.
