High-Resolution Gridded Climatology Project Paper Text

Michael Squires

The Air Force Combat Climatology Center is producing high-resolution (10 km) gridded climatologies using a mesoscale numerical weather prediction model. The model produces gridded climatologies over regions with limited observed data and/or complex terrain. The climatologies are generated from model output versus observed data. The model is deterministic, which differs from the more common probabilistic and statistical models in use. This paper describes the model and methods used to produce the climatologies and provides examples of the climatological products. Verification statistics are also presented. ArcView Spatial Analyst is used to visualize and analyze the climatologies.
