Risk and Catastrophe Assessment in the Insurance Industry
Andreas C. SiebertA relatively young application field of geoinformatics/business mapping is the insurance sector. Like in banking, the degree of penetration of GIS varies. Yet insurers become increasingly interested in the adoption of GIS technologies. Their employment is by no means limited to only managerial tasks. In this paper, actual application cases concerning the treatment of natural hazards and damage potential assessment of natural catastrophes from the experience of the Geoscience Research Group of Munich Reinsurance are highlighted.
