Using Today's Web Technology To Help a County Government Disseminate GIS Data over the Internet/Intranet

Jonathan A. Dennerlein
Sanuel H. Ngan, GIS Programmer/Analyst

Esri's ArcView IMS and MapObjects IMS provide the tools to turn an Internet browser into a capable GIS tool that is powerful yet as easy to use as surfing the net. Woolpert has used this technology in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, to query and analyze GIS data and for the Dade Water and Sewer Department to create an Internet-based GIS/DM (document management) information network for distributing utility data and scanned documents. Through discussing these and other Internet/Intranet-based GIS projects, the audience will become familiar with the tools and methods involved in implementing a GIS Web site.
