Using the ARC GRID Package To Combine Multiple Images into a Grid

Steven K. Predmore

In this study, ARC GRID was used to combine U.S. Geological Survey digital raster graphic (DRGs) and a hill shade made from a digital elevation model to create a basemap for field work. By manipulating the ARCPLOT color map file, one can use the grid to emphasize either the DRG or the hill shade. This technique can also be used to combine other grids created from raster images such as DRGs with orthophotos or raster scans with satellite images. The resulting grid allows the ArcInfo user to create basemaps that can be used to better analyze overlaid data.
