Data Sharing Between EOSDIS and ArcInfo

NASA's Earth Observing System (EOS) program will launch a series of satellites in the next several years to collect large volumes of data for monitoring the earth. For efficient archive, management, and distribution of EOS data, the EOS Data and Information System (EOSDIS) has selected HDF-EOS as its standard format. Because EOS data are valuable to many GIS applications and GIS data are also valuable to the EOS program, sharing and interoperating data between EOSDIS and GIS are important. As a step toward full data interoperability, we have developed a generalized two-way translator between HDF-EOS and ArcInfo. This translator provides a convenient and timely way to share EOSDIS and ArcInfo data.
