The U.S. EPA's Water Programs and state environmental agencies have increasingly emphasized watershed- and water quality-based assessment and integrated analysis of point and nonpoint sources. BASINS is becoming the flagship of watershed analysis tools to meet the needs of such agencies. It brings together the strength of environmental data at various scales, state-of-the-art environmental assessment and modeling tools, and ArcView GIS to tackle the nation's most complex watershed/water quality management issues. This paper demonstrates innovative techniques to (1) facilitate examination of environmental information, (2) provide an integrated watershed and modeling framework, and (3) support analysis of point and nonpoint source management alternatives.
