Associating Factors Influencing Deterioration and Load Carrying Capacity with Bridges: A GIS Approach

Bridges represent critical components within any transportation network. Examination and isolation of pertinent bridge deterioration parameters will provide valuable insight thus enabling more efficient and effective management and design. Initiatives are currently underway to develop a system to support analytical research in this area through GIS integration and spatial processing. This paper discusses how GIS combined with RDBMS and statistical processing software is being used to provide an integrated information environment to support advanced bridge deterioration analysis.
