Desktop Satellite-Based Land Cover Change Analysis Products for Coastal Resource Managers

Satellite-derived land cover data have not previously been readily accessible to the desktop GIS community. The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration Coastal Services Center has addressed this problem by integrating satellite-derived land cover data with other vector data in a multiplatform environment for use by coastal resource managers. These CD-ROM products approach different audiences with multiple ways to access the data: a Web-browser for viewing static maps; an ArcView GIS project file for ArcView GIS users; and ArcExplorer, a free data browser, for those users who do not have GIS software. Currently, three CD-ROMs have been published for areas in California, Alaska, and Oregon/Washington.
