Forest Service resource managers require analytical tools that assist in the decision making process for forest planning and ecosystem management. In order to meet this need, a large number of computer-based analytical tools have been developed to assist in the forest planning process. As the sophistication of these tools has increased, more emphasis has been placed on tools that allow for hierarchical analyses - being able to integrate the decision making process at different levels. This paper discusses the development of a customized GIS application (SpectraVision) that links strategic level forest planning solutions generated by linear programming models to tactical level forest planning alternatives using spatial analysis.
