Development of an Interactive Digital Atlas of Ontario's Forest Fire History Using MapObjects LT

We have compiled a spatial database of Ontario's forest fire history and packaged it in a Windows-based interactive digital atlas. Its toolbar-based interface is written in Visual Basic; display of spatial data (shapefiles) is handled with MapObjects LT. All fire attribute data (e.g., area, perimeter) are stored in a Microsoft Access database and linked to the shapefiles via polygon ID. Run-time SQL queries on the database select user-defined subsets of fire polygons for display and provide summary reports for tables and charts. This presentation will demonstrate main features of the atlas, emphasizing technical aspects of its development.
