Providing Customized GIS Resources for Watershed-Based Citizen GroupsJacquelyn M. RoweJerald J. Fletcher , Charles B. Yuill, Paul J. Kinder, Charles B. Yuill Access to digital spatial data and GIS functions are two major needs for citizen watershed monitoring and planning groups throughout the Mid-Atlantic highlands region. Watershed groups can make use of GIS capabilities in many ways including simple query and what-if analyses, combining data from stream water quality sampling programs with existing spatial data sets, and map production for reports and informational brochures. West Virginia University, in cooperation with the Canaan Valley Institute, has developed a customized ArcView GIS application for watershed groups that automates or simplifies many of these tasks.
