The Use of Land Use/Land Cover Classification Data in Wireless Communication System Design Paper Text

Jody L. Kirtner
Harry R. Anderson

Land use/land cover or groundcover data can play a variety of roles in designing wireless communication systems. There data can be used to improve predictions of signal attenuation and other radio propagation effects and to assist in siting of cellular base stations and other wireless system transmitters. They can also be utilized when projecting trends in PCS/cellular phone call traffic as traffic increases outside of dense urban areas. A new classification of urban areas is proposed.
