Space Locator Service: An Application Developed for San Francisco's South of Market Area

The Space Locator Service is an application used to assist small businesses to locate commercial space in San Francisco's South of Market Area. Developed for the South of Market Foundation, this application is a local economic development tool that integrates business information, local economics, demographics, transportation, and real estate broker information to help businesses locate in the optimal location for the local economy and for the business. This application was created using Avenue and the Dialog Designer extension. Many interactive dialogs allow the user to select a space based on a range of criteria, find a client, enter client information, and add or delete a space from the database. The application also connects with Microsoft Access and Word in order to provide customized business summaries and reports. This tool also provides detailed spatial information at the areawide level, the neighborhood level, a quarter-mile around a given space, and lastly, a detailed space report identifying the broker.
