Urbanization has significant impacts on the overall hydrology of a watershed. ArcView GIS Version 3.0a was used to help determine watershed characteristics and hydrologic response units (HRUs) for input into a physically based distributed-parameter model, PRMS/MMS, developed by the U.S. Geological Survey. The model was applied to a Southern California watershed to explore the hydrologic impacts of future urbanization. Digital data from various sources were transformed into a consistent format using ArcInfo and then analyzed for defining model input parameters using ArcView GIS. Results of this study have contributed to a better understanding of the effect of changing land use on watershed hydrology.
