Successfully Integrating Multiple Esri Components for an Enterprisewide GIS

Building and integrating multiplatform, multicomponent systems can be extremely complex. The key to success lies in properly utilizing each technology to its maximum potential while not overextending any given one. Each functional area of the system must be precisely mapped to a system component, and all components must be carefully integrated to build a complete and functional GIS. Platform selection and implementation are equally important to ensure the successful integration of the system components. This paper will explain an approach for defining the system architecture that integrates custom Visual Basic applications, MapObjects, ARCINFO (ODE), ArcStorm, SDE, and Oracle on a Windows NT/UNIX platform.
