K-14 GIS: A Review of Seven Years of NCGIA Efforts

Steve Palladino

Over the past seven years the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA) has been providing support and leadership to GIS education efforts in both the K-12 and community college arenas. The first efforts were with secondary schools in the Secondary Education Project. This was extended to include all precollegiate educational levels. In the past few years, NCGIA has also focused heavily on GIS in community colleges. This report will highlight what has been learned and developed over the years, with a particular emphasis on the current Core Curriculum for Technical Programs project.
