ICE MAPS, an interactive natural resources query system for the State of California, was initially developed in ArcInfo. The latest version uses MapObjects and Internet Map Server to make spatial data and environmental databases available over the World Wide Web. The results include not only maps and hyperlinks to other sources of information, but also the ability to query for selected features. Navigation is aided by selecting a geographical region of interest and by using tools for changing map extent. Data retrieval is enhanced by the ability to select data layers, perform SQL queries, and produce downloadable maps.
