The California Rivers Assessment is intended to provide an evaluation of the environmental conditions of California's rivers using existing data from many contributors and to improve river conservation and management by making this information available and useful to managers and the public. The assessment utilizes a suite of environmental indicators, processed in ArcInfo and ArcView GIS, to provide an objective view of the ecological integrity of California's riverine resources. The indicators focus on existing riparian and aquatic resources: biodiversity, water quality, and management schemas. Public access to this multileveled, interconnected database of indicators is enhanced by innovative World Wide Web technology.
