Samsung SDS is currently completing an integrating project to create a central Remote Sensed Imagery Library of ERDAS IMAGINE and ArcView Image Analysis. GIS data processed with ArcInfo and MGE were included for better interpretations of imagery that is accessible to all departments related to agriculture and forestry via the World Wide Web in the Republic of Korea. A metadata base for all the processed images, national digital maps, agricultural statistics, field reviews, and assessment reports was built in Oracle database. These metadata can be accessed via an application we developed and can be updated with Java applets by end users. For lack of standardization of remote sensed data format and the huge size of raster data, all the processed images in the center were saved as gif file format with a browse image and distributed to users with browsers. Raster maps can be displayed like layers of vector maps by controlling the color filters of gif files. Not only does the Java application include the simple layer control, but also a function for inserting GIS data files generated by AML and EML to HTML documents.
