Innovative Data Collection, Analysis, and Management for Unexploded Ordnance Removal on the Aleutian Island of Adak

In our Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) project at Adak, we collected over forty million data points and subsequently analyzed them to determine the locations of potential UXOs. Better UXO detection, better UXO discrimination, and rapid relocation of suspected UXOs all mean higher quality UXO removals at significantly lower costs over conventional techniques. We were able to do all of this in the field with ArcView GIS Version 3.0. We integrated it with Access, AutoCAD, and TAS. This user-friendly package allowed our staff to focus on their primary geophysical survey, archive research, and management duties.
