Applying GIS to Watershed Assessments Paper Text

A GIS watershed assessment project was performed on the entire Suwannee River Water Management District in Florida (19,400 km2). Water quality attenuation distances through uplands, wetlands, and streams were determined using ARC GRID with a DEM. ARC GRID cell neighborhood analysis was used to assess wetlands based on neighboring land uses. Flood proneness was assessed using a DEM in ARC GRID and calculating runoff volumes based on land attributes. The model includes an AML menu interface to let the user create a unique land use coverage with graphical tools. The model results of the user-created land use can then be compared side by side with existing or future land use scenarios.
