Using speech recognition combined with GPS, public works, code violation inspectors, and storm water inspectors are seeing data collection rate increases of up to ten times in the City of Aurora, Colorado. This unique approach of collecting data allows the City to cost-effectively and rapidly collect data for their Esri ArcView GIS and ArcInfo software. The City has documented hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings by a combination of having the data available and the use of GIS. This paper will discuss the benefits of using speech and GPS data collection and how accurate and current data in GIS improve services.
