Asset Tracking System Technology: Managing Fixed and Mobile Assets with Twenty-First Century Technology

Asset Tracking System (ATS) technology combines GPS, GIS, communications, mobile computer, speech recognition, and pen interface into a multimedia field terminal allowing the management of fixed and mobile assets in ways never possible until now. This paper will discuss the state-of-the-art combination of these technologies to create ATS. Real case studies with documented metrics of users implementing ATS to manage large infrastructures, track fleets, or collect information on fixed assets is discussed.
