Soils Suite: Building a Postprocessing System for SSURGO Digital Soils Data Paper Text

Eric Pyle

To efficiently QC scanned soils maps and convert them to DLG files meeting federal standards, a suite of AML programs was developed and integrated under a menu system. Four programmers' work went into the initial system. Functions include checking node and polygon matching between tiles, proper attribute codes, single or multiple tile processing, and generation of error reports for corrections. This paper will discuss the challenges in coordinating several programmers' code, working with an evolving federal standard, and improving performance and ease of use. Use of ArcTools menus to quickly add a professional look, boost performance, and maintain code will be discussed.
