Visualizing Plant Distributions; Building Tailored Solutions Using Out-of-the-Box Technology

Christine McMahon

The earth is richly endowed with numerous plant species. Providing scientific information about plant distribution creates a plentiful task for a GIS. Collecting, analyzing, and presenting data across popular computing platforms while using out-of-the-box technology make for an exciting project. This paper will detail the requirements and restraints encountered while building a dynamic and robust solution for analysis and map presentation. The project's aim was to provide information for a subset of 20,000 plant species. The tool sets developed helped to create publication-quality maps and reports that communicate the power of scientific study.
